Artist Talk: The Post-Apocalyptic Renaissance - a conversation with East Village Artists Brett DePalma, James Kalm, Rick Prol, Lori Taschler, and Marguerite Van Cook.
Please join us for an artist panel with influential New York-based artists, oriented around the living legacy of the East Village art scene in the early 1980’s. The explosion of art, music, poetry, and writing that emerged from this legendary neighborhood set the stage for New York’s contemporary art scene and continue to define New York’s artistic landscape today.
The evening will begin at 6PM with individual talks by Brett DePalma, James Kalm, Rick Prol, Lori Taschler, and Marguerite Van Cook. The artists will speak about their work, process, lives, and relationships, providing rare first person perspectives of the cultural landscape of the East Village. Afterwards, the artists will participate in a conversation and Q & A panel on stage.
Set during the last weekend of Lori Taschler’s show, Abject Objects, and Clockwork Crosby’s show, Gifted, the Artist Talk will doubly serve as the closing reception for the show. Please join us afterwards for refreshments, conversation, and a last chance peruse our exhibition.
Don’t miss this opportunity to observe these great artists in conversation during this special event that will elaborate on the continuities and variations of this historical genre.
