Franklin Evans creates paintings and painting installations. His recursive inventory of the artist's studio operates around the nodes of the studio as subject itself and the studio as a generative tool. He draws from other artists (Joan Brown, Arthur Jafa, Kerry James Marshall, Henri Matisse, Jose Clemente Orozco, and more), ebulliently embracing the abundance of past and present culture as it infuses his fluid, networked painting/brainspace. Born in Reno, NV, he has lived and worked in New York, NY since 1993. He has degrees from Stanford University (BA), University of Iowa (MA and MFA Painting), and Columbia University (MBA). In May 2022 he presented his new installation perpetualstudio at MAXXI Museum (Rome), a commissioned work for the museum's collection, for the exhibition What a Wonderful World, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi (running through March 2023).
